What a great first week of school here at SEG! We are so happy to see our 6th grade students getting quickly acclimated to their new environment. They are doing a wonderful job with all their new procedures and engaging in the classroom. A huge thank you to all of the 7th and 8th graders who have helped them out this week.
We are excited to see all of you at Curriculum Night on Thursday, August 30th at 6:00pm. A few notes with this program:
1. It will begin promptly at 6:00pm in your child’s first period classroom. Please come prior to 6:00pm to find the classroom. Broadway doors will be open at 5:45pm. On this night you will move through your child’s schedule to get familiar with the curriculum. Your child will bring home your schedule on Monday, August 27th which lists their classes and the times you spend in each period. Bells will chime for you to move from class to class in our passing period. Your student can do it, and so can you! Thank you for making it a parent only event due to space constraints of the classroom.
2. For those of you who have had students here in the past we used to come together as a school community to talk about the year. Unfortunately, construction does not afford us space this year, so we will distribute a document with important information in your child’s Reading/Writing classroom. We can’t wait until next year when we are all back together!
3. Curriculum Night is an event meant for teachers to review the curriculum your student will be working with in the classroom. If you have specifics things you would like to tell a teacher about your student please make sure to call or email those directly to the teacher as they will only have time to introduce you to the curriculum during the evening.
4. The PTO will be setup in the lunchroom commons with great information about how you can join and assist! Please make sure to see them before or after the event to show your support. You can find their information at http://www.segrosspto.org
Beginning next week, you will be able to easily see all of your child’s classwork, homework and long-term assignments/tests in one easy location. The link can be found on our school website, but I will also include it here in this email. http://www.district95.org/1/Content2/homework
Following the hyperlinks on that page, based on your child’s grade level and elective, you will be able to see everything they are doing. This is important for keeping an eye on your student’s work, but also to foster great conversations about what is occurring within the classroom.
Don’t forget to signup for Fall clubs and activities. The information is again included in our Friday mail and was also distributed earlier in the week. Remember for a club to run we need at least 10 students to sign up. Additionally, some clubs with maximums will have a lottery system if they exceed their signup number. You will find out information from the moderators next week.
It is so important to look at the school calendars each week when they are sent on Friday. There is so much programming for students here at SEG, and this the major way we make sure you know what is going on in the school. There can be additions to these calendars so it is important to look each week.
We are looking forward to a fantastic school year of gROWth for you child, thank you for being a great partner in education and working with us to achieve that goal!
