Parent Teacher Conferences

If you have not already done so please make sure to sign up for conferences.  There is still space available! Locations of teachers have changed to further improve our process.  6th and 7th grade teachers will be in the gymnasium.  8th grade teachers will be in the cafeteria.  Math teachers will be in the second-floor conference room.  Elective teachers will be in their classrooms.  P.E. teachers will be located in rooms:

202: Janetopolous (6th grade)            203: Calkins (8th grade)             204: Begley (7th grade)

Please begin with the grade level teachers, then visit math teachers, and conclude with electives and PE.  Please set aside an hour’s time to make it through the teachers.

Technology

The other day I rode the morning shuttle bus from Brook Park to SEG.  The students did a great job on the ride, even letting me sit in the back of the bus!  I felt pretty important back there! .  With that said, I was able to reaffirm my notion that kids today are growing up in a totally different world than you and I grew up in.  Every conversation was focused around something that was going on in a phone.  So many Instagram stories, Snaps, texts, FB messages, games and a lot less personal interactions.  I’m not here to say that is right or wrong.  Who knows what communication will look like 20 years from now.  What I am saying is that with these new forms of communication, it is increasingly important that parents help their students navigate a world where they are constantly, “on.”  Please remember to check your children’s devices, set up clear expectations at home about where devices are stored at night time, and give your kids time away from their screens. We have some important education pieces coming up for our students and parents so please keep reading our weekly emails.
