Explanations

ISAT:

ISAT is the current assessment used by the State of Illinois that indicates to what extent students have met the State Standards.  The percentages reported in the Dashboard represent the percent of ALL district students who have met or exceed state standards in reading and math.  It should be noted that the 2013 scores reflect a new ISAT assessment that incorporated questions designed to assess the new common core (which has not yet been implemented) and raised the cut-scores significantly that a student need to achieve to met or exceed standards.  While the data remains extremely useful for 2013, it cannot be compared to previous years simply by the overall percentage.

For more information on student performance on the ISAT or to get greater detail on the school district's demographics, please refer to the Illinois Interactive Report Card at iirc.niu.edu.

MAP:

The Measure of Academic Progress (MAP) assessment is a local assessment used by the district that helps to measure student growth over periods of time.  MAP is a relatively new assessment tool to the district.  Currently, the Dashboard reflects the percentage of eight grade students who demonstrated positive growth from the fall to the spring of their eighth grade year.

Student Safety / Climate Survey:

Response to Intervention (RTI) is a tier model that indicates the type of instructional and support services a student may receive.  It also helps to indicate the social and emotional well being of a child.  The district has utilized a locally developed student survey that reports the percentage of respondents who reflect positively on their emotional state (i.e. feeling safe at school).

Extra-Curricular:

This percent indicates the number of District students who have participated in at least one extra-curricular school sponsored activity during the course of the school year.

State Financial Profile:

Each year, the State of Illinois conducts a financial review of a school's financial performance relating to its expenditures, revenues, and debt.  The highest score a school can receive is 4.0.

5 Essentials Survey:

This survey is a State initiative that is designed to utilize student and parent feedback to provide "scores" for a school in defined areas.  At the time the dashboard was developed, it was believed that this tool would allow the district to report valuable information based upon community feedback.  Unfortunately, the data from this State initiative is not available.  The District is currently evaluating other ways to obtain meaningful parent and student feedback.
