BP Weekly Newsletter 10-15-21

Superstar Families,

We had a great short week at Brook Park and we continue to be impressed with the students' hard work and effort this year! There are quite a few things coming up so please be sure to take a look:

Picture Retakes:

Picture retake day is Wednesday, October 20th. If parents want their child to have a retake they should email their student's teacher.

Van Gogh has requested the original pictures be returned for any students that are doing retakes.

If any parent would like to prepay, please ask they visit

Social Emotional Learning:

This week during our school-wide SEL lesson, students learned and practiced STOP, WALK and TALK (SWAT).  SWAT is a strategy meant to empower students to stand up to behavior that they feel is offensive or that is not wanted.

Universal screening helps school staff members determine which students may be socially, emotionally, and/or behaviorally “at-risk”.  The Student Risk Screening Scale (SRSS) is a short questionnaire completed by teachers.  This year’s Fall SRSS was completed by teachers between October 12 and 15, 2021.  The results of the tool will be used to provide identified students with mentoring, social skill building, and/or other support to help them engage positively in learning. Please click here to read more about the Fall SRSS.

Halloween Happenings at Brook Park: October 29th

Halloween will be a special celebration at Brook Park School. On Friday, October 29, children will be allowed to dress for school. In order to ensure the safe passage of our children to/from school and preserve part of the academic day, we have established the following guidelines:

-This year students will not be allowed to give any type of items to classmates.

-Children may wear his/her complete costume to school for the entire day. They do not have to take it off and change into different clothes.

-Students will be allowed to wear face paint or color their hair as part of their costumes; must arrive like this, they cannot do this at school.

-Toy weapons will not be allowed as part of a costume.

-Shoes must be worn at all times (gym shoes are recommended).

-Students are not required to dress in costumes or participate in the activities.

-Please let your child’s teacher know if they will not be participating in the Halloween activities.

We would ask for your cooperation and support in our attempt to have a safe and fun filled day.

The annual Halloween Parade will start at 8:45 and will be weather dependent. We will take a lap around the building starting at Door #1 (heading toward the playground) and entering the building again at Door #21. Parents are welcome to socially distance themselves around the parade route. Unfortunately there will not be a parent party with parent volunteers but the teachers will make it a special day and the Brook Park Council is supplying a craft for every grade level.

Please email [email protected] or [email protected] if you have any questions.

Parent Teacher Conferences:

Parent teacher conferences information will come home in the next few weeks from your child’s classroom teacher.  The conferences will be on Zoom and will not be confined to the perimeters of previous years when they were only offered on a few preset days. Schedules will be more flexible to accommodate family schedules.
