BP Weekly Newsletter 3-18-22

Superstar families,

We had a wonderful week here at Brook Park! We really enjoyed spending a lot of time outside with the beautiful weather earlier in the week and celebrating St. Patrick’s Day! We are so lucky to have the most wonderful students and families. Please take some time to read about some important changes and upcoming events:

Spring Break:

Just a reminder that Spring Break is the week of March 28th - April 1st.

Passing Out Items:

As you know, last year and so far this year we did not allow students to pass out items for birthdays or other holidays. As we move forward to a greater sense of normalcy, we are allowing items to be passed out for the remainder of the school year. A few important guidelines to remember about passing items out:

-If items are being passed out, they must be passed out to the entire class, not just a handful of students.

-Food items were not allowed prior to the pandemic and are still not allowed. Items that would be allowable are pencils, small toys or trinkets, etc.

-Because of the sheer volume of these types of items many of these students have at home, it is always encouraged to do something that can contribute in a long lasting way to the entire class such as buying a book for the classroom library.

World Down Syndrome Day: Monday, March 21:

On Monday, March 21st is World Down Syndrome Day!  Grab your blue and yellow (coincidentally also BP colors) to bring awareness to Down Syndrome.

World Water Day; Tuesday, March 22:

Next Tuesday is World Water Day! With only 1% of water on earth being usable freshwater, we want to make sure we are using our water as responsibly as we can. Tuesday, March 22nd have your student(s) wear blue to bring awareness to water conservation. Here is a link with more information on how kids can conserve water every day and here's a pledge your family can take in your own home to be a water warrior!

After School Conversations:
You want to know what your kids are doing in their new class, but you can’t get much out of them when you ask. Skip the way-too-open-ended “How was your day?” and try one of these after-school conversation starters instead. I (Mr. Sorensen) have been doing this with his kids (4th and 6th graders) the last two weeks and it has led to some good dinner/bed time conversations. We have played it as a game and they pick a number without knowing the questions, I read the question and have had them discuss their thoughts. Give it a try and see how it goes.

  1. Did anyone do anything funny at school today?
  2. What made you feel the happiest today?
