BP Weekly Newsletter 4-8-22

Superstar families,

We hope everyone had a wonderful and restful Spring Break! We are really looking forward to many of the fun activities coming up in April and May. We had a great first week back this week. There are many important things coming up so please take a look:

Volunteers:

We are looking forward to inviting volunteers back to Brook Park school! Starting the week of April 11th, there may be opportunities for volunteering in your child’s classroom.

Not all classrooms may have volunteer opportunities right away or even this spring, and this was common even prior to the pandemic. We will not be having office volunteers at this time due to nationwide toner shortage issues. Masks are recommended but not required for volunteers.

Brook Park “Grand Re-Opening” Event:

We are very excited to announce our Brook Park “Grand Re-Opening” event to our Brook Park community on Wednesday, April 20th from 5:30-6:30 PM! This will be a time to walk through the building and participate in a school-wide scavenger hunt to see the wonderful spaces that your child learns in each day. We are also in great need of volunteers for this event, which you can sign up for through the BPC.

Parent’s Guide to Enhancing Your Child’s Executive Functioning Skills:

Please see the attached flier to this exciting presentation on Executive Functioning skills presented by our District 95 Behavior Specialist, Katie Johns on May 11th. The link to sign up is also in the flier.

Spring Pictures:

Spring Pictures will take place on Wednesday, April 13th. There is no pre ordering of pictures. The students will receive a proof that will come home later in order to purchase the pictures online.

SEL Blurb

Kindergarten, First and Second Grades learned about the importance of using kind words.  A story they read referred to kind words as "puppy" words (because puppies make most people feel happy) and unkind words as "porcupine" words (because porcupines can hurt).  See the attachment to read more about kindness.

Third, Fourth and Fifth Grades learned about conflict, bullying and being upstanders.  Learn more about being an upstander by reading the newsletter written by NIU's School Psychology Program.

Community Offerings:

SEG Inquiry and Innovation Class: Inquiry and Innovation class is collecting old sneakers, including rubber spikes and Vans. The well worn shoes will be recycled, rather than put into a landfill. Better shoes will get us money which we will donate to The Trevor Project. Shoes must be a minimum of 4.5 inches. There will be bins inside of Door 1 and Door 21.

Warrior Nation Summer Camp is offering basketball, volleyball, and soccer camps this summer from incoming 5th-8th graders. This camp will take place this year at Brook Park School! Click here for more information

You can also see all of the information on the Warrior Nation Summer Camp Website.
