BP Weekly Newsletter 9-2-22

Superstar families,

What a great first week at Brook Park! We were able to celebrate a whole school assembly this afternoon to kick-off the new year. We were able to sing our school song and it sounded great. Each week there is a ton of information in our weekly blast and if you have questions, feel free to reach out to Kelly King or Mike Sorensen.

Safety Drills:

We will be informing parents of all of our drills this year so that you are aware as a family. All of our drills are intended as a quick practice to make sure everyone knows how to be safe. All drills take approximately five minutes to limit the disruption to the school day.

Fire: We will be having our first Fire Drill next Friday, September 9th. The first fire drill we practice as a school. The next one will be with the Lagrange Park Fire Department to give us feedback.

Intruder: We will be having our first Intruder Drill Tuesday, September 13th. We just make an announcement that we are practicing this drill and then Mr. Sorensen, Ms. King and Mrs. Johnson walk around the school to make sure the doors are closed and locked. There is no simulation of an intruder. If you would like a resource because you would like to discuss this with your child, we have linked one here.

Disaster/Tornado: We will be having our first Disaster Drill on Thursday, September 22nd. Classes practice the Disaster Drill individually where they move to the first floor of the building away from areas with windows.

Bus Evacuation: We will practice bus evacuation on Tuesday, September 20th. All of the classrooms are on individual buses and bus safety is discussed with the classrooms.

Spirit Wear:

We have been able to partner with a company to provide an additional spirit wear option to both our BP staff and families. They are running a special where all of the items are 30% off and there is free shipping with orders over $60 until September 21st! Ten percent of all of the proceeds goes back to Brook Park. Check out their shop here!

The BPC will continue to offer Brook Park gear at events and throughout the year.

Technology:

You should have received an email from Ms. Pelsor, our Director of Technology last week, letting you know that if you did not turn in your child’s Chromebook case or charger last year, or if your charger does not work, you will need to order a new one through MySchoolBucks. The Access for All Handbook has also been updated to reflect this change. Please contact Ms. Pelsor at [email protected] if you have any questions.

Clubs:

Club interest forms are due TONIGHT, Friday, September 2nd  at 11:59 PM!! No forms will be accepted tomorrow.

For a club to run at Brook Park there needs to be at least 10 students. Unfortunately, there are a few clubs that have not met that minimum yet. Puzzle Club needs 3 more, Global Read Aloud needs 7 more, and Speed School needs 2 more. If your child is interested in any of these clubs please submit a Fall Club Interest Form! If you have already filled out a form but did not select the aforementioned clubs you may submit another.

Please reach out if you have any questions but keep in mind that it is a holiday weekend.
