BP Weekly Newsletter 9-9-22

Superstar families,

This was an amazing short week at Brook Park and it is exciting seeing all of the teaching/learning that is underway! We wanted to remind all families that the ECE/Kindergarten/New Family Ice Cream Social will be taking place after school today from 5:30-7:00 pm today on the playground and this is an all family event.

Safety Drills:

We will be informing parents of all of our drills this year so that you are aware as a family. All of our drills are intended as a quick practice to make sure everyone knows how to be safe. All drills take approximately five minutes to limit the disruption to the school day.

Fire: We had our first walk through of our fire drill today and the students did a wonderful job! Our next fire drill will be hopefully in the next few weeks and will be with the LaGrange Park fire department.

Intruder: We will be having our first lock down drill this Tuesday, September 13th. We just make an announcement that we are practicing this drill and then Mr. Sorensen, Ms. King and Mrs. Johnson walk around the school to make sure the doors are closed and locked. There is no simulation of an intruder. If you would like a resource because you would like to discuss this with your child, we have linked one here.

Disaster/Tornado: We will be having our first disaster drill on Thursday, September 22nd. Classes practice the disaster drill individually where they move to the first floor of the building away from areas with windows.

Bus Evacuation: We will practice bus evacuation on Tuesday, September 20th. All of the classrooms are on individual buses and bus safety is discussed with the classrooms. This is important because we are starting to take field trips again this year after not having these opportunities the last few years.

Spirit Wear:

We have been able to partner with a company to provide an additional spirit wear option to both our BP staff and families. They are running a special where all of the items are 30% off and there is free shipping with orders over $60 until September 21st! Ten percent of all of the proceeds goes back to Brook Park. Check out their shop here!

The BPC will continue to offer Brook Park gear at events and throughout the year.

Technology:

You should have received an email from Ms. Pelsor, our Director of Technology a few weeks ago, letting you know that if you did not turn in your child’s Chromebook case or charger last year, or if your charger does not work, you will need to order a new one through MySchoolBucks. The Access for All Handbook has also been updated to reflect this change. Please contact Ms. Pelsor at [email protected] if you have any questions.
