Superstar Weekly Newsletter 11-4-2022

Superstar families,

It was a wonderful Halloween week here at Brook Park and we are certainly enjoying the beautiful November weather! Thanks to all of our parent volunteers who helped make Halloween such a fun-filled day for our students!

As a reminder, there is no school for students on Monday, November 7th or Tuesday, November 8th. We hope your family enjoys the long weekend and we look forward to seeing many of you at conferences next week!

There are a few things coming up before the weekend:

District Reporting and Grading Update:

We have included a letter and a short video discussing the new report card, four levels of mastery, grade calculations and the parent portal that will be launched in the third trimester. We are very excited about these new changes in District 95!

School-Wide Get Caught Reading Campaign:

We are creating an all school display and we need your help. Please take a photo of your child reading and send it to school.  Your child should not pose for the picture, because the whole idea is to “get caught” reading. If your child is reading with/to a family member, stuffed animal,  pet, etc., that is fine.  The whole idea is to capture them reading, anywhere, anytime, with anyone!

The only thing that we ask is that your child is reading an actual book in the photo, not on a tablet or computer.

Please take a photo and send it to school with your child.

Lockdown Drill:

On Thursday, November 10th we will be conducting our required lockdown drill with the LaGrange Park Police. This drill is no different than the one we practiced at the start of the year and it takes a maximum of five minutes. The only difference is the police officers will be accompanying Ms. King, Mrs. Johnson and Mr. Sorensen as we walk around the building so they can give us feedback.

Superintendent Survey:

As mentioned in School Board President’s Katie Mulcrone’s letter a few weeks back, the Board is conducting a survey through BWP and Associates for the purpose of collecting feedback on the characteristics of the next D95 Superintendent.  All District 95 community members are encouraged to participate in the survey that takes about 3-5 minutes to complete.

The survey will be open from October 30 through November 6.  You may access the survey by clicking here.  The survey is also available on the D95 website, a quick link is provided here.

The Board fully expects to hear a presentation from BWP on the survey results AND the results of the community focus groups at its December 15th School Board meeting.

Thank you in advance for your participation in the survey.  Your input is valued and appreciated by the School Board.
