8th Grade Year End Events

Dear 8th Grade Warrior Families:

The following information is to help our 8th grade students during a very busy last two months here at SEG!  While published on our calendar all year, our official date for graduation will be Wednesday, May 29th at 5:30pm. The date has not been impacted by the taking of any emergency weather days.  This will also be the last day of attendance for 8th-grade students.  The event will take place in the main gymnasium at Riverside Brookfield High School.  This venue accommodates the increased size of classes, allows for additional family attendance, and alleviates weather-related concerns.  Please know that parking can be tricky at RBHS, so arriving on time is important.

On the day of the event, eighth-grade students will be bussed to Riverside Brookfield High School to rehearse for the evening ceremony. Students will then return to SEG, and from there, be dismissed at 1 pm to allow time to prepare for the evening ceremony.  The 1 pm dismissal will only be for 8th-grade students.  There will be no bussing for 8th-grade students on this day.  Dress for the evening event is formal attire for students with cap and gown worn for the event.  The cap and gown are distributed closer to the event date.

The ceremony will begin at 5:30pm.  Students should arrive at RBHS at 5:00pm to line up for graduation entrance.  Families may seat themselves in the RBHS gymnasium beginning at 5:00pm.  The bleachers will be used for seating.  We do not distribute tickets due to the large capacity of our location.  All family members are welcome, there is no attendance cap. There will be a designated limited mobility seating area on the floor level for this event.  Please be respectful of this space for the ceremony. We have had ample room in the past at this location for all family members with limited mobility. The ceremony typically lasts an hour for those planning after the ceremony events.  Please know this time can vary, but we make every effort to adhere to an hour in length.

Van Gogh Photography will take a picture of each student with their promotion certificate.  You may purchase the photo from their online portal, which will be shared after the event.

This ceremony is one of academic promotion from the student’s elementary to high school education.  As such, we ask that you help us maintain a dignified ceremony.  In order to do this, we ask that no balloons be brought into the gymnasium, which could obstruct others’ views.  No air horns or noise-making devices should be brought into the ceremony. We ask that excessive yelling and shouting be limited so as not to mask another student’s name from being read.  Children without parental supervision will not be allowed to attend the event.  Thank you in advance for your cooperation.

As a first reminder; all students who may have lunch money in their MySchoolBucks account should spend it before the end of the year.  Year-end balances can switch to siblings in the district but they can not transfer to RBHS.

We look forward to a successful promotion ceremony that honors the accomplishments of our 8th-grade class and all the exciting year-end opportunities our 8th-graders are afforded in District 95!  Below this letter is additional information about upcoming 8th-grade events.  See you soon!

Make sure the tassle and ribbons are secured before wearing them to graduation, we do not have any extras. Formal attire is highly recommended.   A professional picture will be taken after your student exits the stage with their diploma.  They will be for sale by Van Gogh Photography.

May 28th

Great America

Permission slips for this went out a couple of months ago and are due back to Mrs. Glazik, no later than Thursday, April 18th. All tickets are purchased in advance so there are no refunds. Payments for the entire trip, which includes the chartered bus and park ticket can be paid for on MySchoolBucks.  Students who will be using a season pass and only need to pay for the bus must do so with either cash or a check made out to SEG. Students using a season pass must also submit a photo that shows their pass is still valid on the date of the field trip.  This is to prevent problems we have had in the past with passes not being valid when we arrive at the park. If you need financial assistance with this trip please contact the school office so we can assist.

May 29th

Last Day for 8th Grade and Graduation

Prior to graduation practice at RBHS students will be clapped out of both SEG and Brook Park.  Parents who wish to attend can gather outside SEG at 9:30am on the Lincoln Ave. side of the building.  This is where the students will board the bus to head to Brook Park and then RBHS. Please know that due to bus concerns, this time can fluctuate.  The boarding of buses typically takes 3-5 minutes.

The doors to RBHS will open at 5:00pm and the students need to meet in the East gym by themselves to line up. Parents should be seated in the main gym and the ceremony will begin at 5:30pm.
